As the saying goes, give to Caesar what belongs to him and God what belongs to God, every Kenyan or non-Kenyan living in Kenya is expected to give to the government what belongs to it.
This is done through paying taxes cutting across from the following sources of income; Business Income from any trade or profession, Income from employment or services rendered, Rent Income, Pensions Income, Investment Income - dividends and interest among others, and Capital Gains.
Kenya Revenue Authority through its annual filing of returns is calling upon Kenyans to wake up and file their returns before the June 30th deadline which is nearly approaching.
According to Income Tax Act and Tax Procedures Act, every Kenyan whether employed or not expected to file their returns as long as they have in possession a KRA PIN.

Many Kenyans especially those unemployed and students who may have obtained the PIN with other agendas which are not employment tend to say that it is only the employed who are supposed to file the returns.
However, as a tax expert, I always advise every Kenyan Citizen to file returns to avoid getting a penalty amounting to KS. 2,000 for each year you fail to file.
Nil filers are expected to file zero returns which help the government determine the number of filers they have, detect any tax evaders especially the employed ones.

Most students who take KRA PINS are expected to file Nil returns. Many of them tend not to do so and find themselves in a fixed situation especially when they are done with school and they need to get employed and are required to produce a Tax Compliance Certificate.
For NIL filers you are required to follow simple steps by either using the KRA M-Service APP found on google play and Apple store where you’re required to download and sign in.

After signing in, go in and tap the returns, choose obligation which mostly is Individual Income Tax Resident, pick the return period which currently is 2020 and submit.
For employed citizens, one is required to go to the nearest KRA offices or Huduma Centers where one produces P9 forms and they are simply and fast assisted by a very reliable team of experts.

Don’t be the last-minute Kenyan, hurry up before the June deadline catches up with you.
