Uhuru In Talks With Top US Commander, Hours After Somalia Diplomatic Tiff

President Uhuru Kenyatta today met General Stephen Townsend, commander of the United States Africa Command.

It was just hours after Somalia withdrew all diplomatic ties with Kenya and asked all diplomats to depart from Mogadishu.
Recently, US President Donald Trump recalled 700 US troops stationed in Somalia, a war-torn country in the horn of Africa.

President Kenyatta and General Townsend discussed the strengthening of the existing military collaboration between Kenya and the US. Kenya is an important partner in the US-led global war on terror, thanks to its geo-political position.
A contigent of international forces under the umbrella AMISON (African Union Mission in Somalia) has been battling a ragtag army of terrorists in Somalia known Al Shabaab.
The meeting was also graced by General Robert Kibochi, Kenya’s Chief of Defence Forces, and Kyle McCarter, US Ambassador to Kenya.
