Uganda has started oil production with drilling operations. This is a great move. It is good to see the progress in oil and gas sector in East Africa. Tanzania is also making progress with their natural gas project.
Here in Kenya, we are talking about increasing tax revenues instead of talking about growing the economy. Tax revenues are a function of the economy. You can't talk about the output without talking about the input. That is as wise as putting the cart before the horse.
We have an extractive sector with resources worth over KSh. 15 Trillion. We have oil, coal, rare earth deposits, iron ore, titanium, gold and many other minerals. We have massive geothermal power potential. But all these things can't benefit us because of poor visionless leadership.
It is no wonder we can't even feed ourselves. We have become a warehouse economy which imports nearly everything it consumes. Instead of lowering the cost of doing business to spur our manufacturing sector, we are proposing to double power prices.

If we don't change course, in a few years our economy will diminish and be overtaken by our neighbours. We will just live to reminisce the days we were the largest economy in East Africa.
Leaders in other countries are working overtime for their people. Ours are just filling their stomachs and bank accounts. When will we ever appreciate the critical role leadership plays in shaping the destiny of a country?
Instead of electing the best we elect the richest. When shall we break this vicious cycle of electing clueless and incompetent leadership then spend the next five years crying?
