1. Taifa Leo

This publication looks back at ODM leader Raila Odinga's political career that has been marred with several instances of betrayal since the late president Daniel Arap Moi's era.

Analysts said all indications show history is repeating itself, especially with the crumbling handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila which could leave the latter with an egg on his face as it happened in the past where he was used and dumped.

For instance, Raila supported Moi in 2002 with the hope of getting an endorsement but the late head of state instead picked Uhuru, a then political novice, as his preferred successor.

During retired president Mwai Kibaki's tenure, the former prime minister also faced another episode of betrayal after the former head of state failed to honour the agreement they both had.

This came amid jitters in Raila's camp at a time when Uhuru seems to be supporting the One Kenya Alliance, which is majorly comprised of his former National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principals whom Raila does not see eye to eye.

2. Daily Nation

According to this paper, succession politics took centre stage in the meeting between ODM leader Raila Odinga, Baringo senator Gideon Moi and President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother,, Muhoho.

The three leaders met at Raila's Karen residence on Tuesday, April 13, in the wake of speculations of ongoing coalition talks between the Opposition leader and Deputy President William Ruto.

Reports indicated the trio discussed the possibility of three of Kenya's prominent families being in the same team in the 2022 elections.

The meeting was also interpreted as an assurance that the head of state was keen on keeping his handshake truce with the former prime minister intact.

5. The Star

According to The Star, leaders from the Mt Kenya region have started lobbying for former Agriculture Cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate in the 2022 General Election.

Politicians drawn from the National Assembly, Senate and influential grassroots leaders have been meeting to strategise on how to rally the vote-rich region behind Kiujuri.
