According to the Swahili publication, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi are reported planning to lead the coast region in exiting the ODM party.

The two leaders reportedly held a meeting with 25 leaders from the coast region where they reportedly discussed among others unity and the possibility of forming a regional party.

According to Kingi, they are interested in forming a oarty that will neither be allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga nor Deputy President William Ruto.

“We have held a meeting with MPs to discuss regional unity and formation of political outfit that will neither be allied to Raila Odinga nor William Ruto,” said Kingi.

The Standard

The newspaper reported on the massive failure by KCPE candidates ahead of the national exams.

According to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), majority of the candidates were ranked below average in the tests.

The council added that more than half of the 1.1 million candidates scored less than 50% in each subject.

The subjects that registered poor performance include English, Kiswahili, Mathematics and Science.

Also, only 17 out of 47 counties managed an average of 50%.

People Daily

The newspaper reported on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to approve the car grant demand for MCAs ahead of the vote on the BBI referendum bill.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders from the Mt Kenya region, the Head of State said the government was ready to give the MCAs a car grant.

This, according to Uhuru, is so that that could enjoy the same privileges as the MPs.

Speaking during a meeting with ODM MCAs on Tuesday, February 2, ODM leader Raila Odinga echoed Uhuru’s words saying the car grant would be given to the MCAs soon.

Raila also dismissed claims that the move amounts to bribery saying that just like the MPs, MCAs also deserve a car grant.

Daily Nation

The newspaper reported on Uhuru’s new tack on marketing the BBI bill.

The publication noted that Uhuru who has been taking a back seat since the amendment process began is now directly engaging all stakeholders in discussions to see the bill pass.

The president has also started to openly counter DP Ruto’s hustler narrative which he has been using to campaign against the BBI.

Uhuru is also expected to hold more regional talks.
