Top Kenyan newspaper headlines for January 20

The country’s top newspapers focused on the political tussle between President Uhuru Kenyatta allies and Deputy President William Ruto allies over the BBI, as well as the inauguration of US president-elect Joe Biden.

One of the dailies also reported on Uhuru’s latest demand to ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The newspaper warned Kenyans against being conned by politicians as the 2022 General Elections nears.

The daily noted that politicians have started going back to the roots in a bid to cover up their failures, and seeking a reelection.

According to the publication, some of the tricks used to con voters include showing up in local funeral functions, attending church services, giving donations and handouts and seeking blessings from community elders.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee administration has asked Raila Odinga-led party ODM to formalise the handshake pact.

The head of state wants ODM party to formalise the pact before being rewarded with the deputy Governor position in Nairobi County following Mike Sonko’s impeachment.

ODM is said to have asked for the position as a reward for the role it played in Sonko’s ouster.
