Azimio la Umoja-One plans to conducted a parallel Jamhuri day celebrations at Kamukunji grounds was yesterday cancelled.Affirming the cancellation, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi said that the meeting had been put on hold untill further notice due to Raila Odinga's engagement on the same day.
Reliable sources have revealed that on the material day, 12th December, Raila will be out of the country and therefore being the organiser of the rally, his absence leads to the cancellation.
On Sunday, Raila Odinga is expected to travel to United States of America where he has been invited to attend a development partners meeting in his capacity as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.
“We will not have the rally because our leader will not be present. We were waiting for confirmation and now that it is here, we can’t continue. Mzee (Raila) is expected to jet out of the country on Sunday for that function, because he has a role to play and we can’t continue without him,” said an insider.
Earlier before the cancellation, Raila had announced that he was going to conduct countrywide rallies in protest over President William Ruto’s government accusing it of making lives of Kenyans more hard due to the increasing prices of essential commodities.
