1. President Uhuru Kenyatta travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) for a three-day state visit at the invitation of President Felix TSisekedi.

2. The Kenyan delegation, which included Cabinet secretaries Raychelle Omamo and Eugene Wamalwa, arrived in the central African country a few minutes past 3pm on Tuesday, April 20.

Uhuru was officially received at the airport by his host and accorded a full State reception complete with a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Congolese military.

3. His first stop was at Palais de la Nation, the official residence of President Tshisekedi.

4. The Jubilee Party leader and his host engaged in bilateral talks that culminated in the signing of several agreements.

The two countries signed four framework cooperation agreements covering several economic sectors, security and defence as well as maritime transport.

They signed two separate bilateral agreements on security and defence, which provide mechanisms for cooperation between Kenya and DR Congo in areas such as counter-terrorism, immigration, cyber-security and customs and border control.


5. On Wednesday, April 21, Kenya's head of state presided over the inauguration of the rebranded Equity Commercial Bank of Congo office block in central Kinshasa.

He commended the financial institution for its growing continental presence saying its expansion was helping unite Africa and expand its economic freedom.

6. Following the visit, Uhuru said Kenya will open a consulate in Goma, North Kivu, and appoint an Honorary Consul in Lubumbashi, South Kivu to strengthen friendship.

7. He also welcomed DRC's interest in joining the East African Community (EAC).

At the moment, the 59-year-old President Uhuru is the chairman of the regional bloc.
