Matiang’i reveals intrigue behind Turkish Harun Aydin’s deportation

Home Secretary Fred Matiang’i shed light on the controversial dismissal of Turkish businessman Harun Aydin from the country.

Speaking to a parliamentary committee in Mombasa on Friday August 13, the SC said Aydin was removed from his post following an agreement between Kenya and the Turkish government.

The SC explained that Kenya was to indict Aydin with money laundering and terrorism-related crimes, but a standing agreement between the two countries handed him over to Turkish authorities for questioning and further action.

“We expelled him on the basis of the deal we had with the government. We mutually agreed with the Turkish government to hand him over to their security agencies for processing,” the interior ministry said.

He added that the businessman did not have the correct papers and that his passport showed that he had left the country twice without an arrival stamp.

“His passport shows he left the country twice without an arrival stamp, that means he was sneaked into the country, and it’s alarming enough to deport him. The issuance of a permit work does not guarantee a permanent stay in the country, ”added Matiang’i.

“The information filled out on the work permit was incorrect and fraudulent, he is not an investor as claimed. There is no investment anywhere. He was a criminal, a strange character posing as a investor.”

Matiang’i told MPs that Aydin’s documents indicated he was working in the energy sector, but his contract was a bogus and during inquiries, they realized he did not of known address.

“The phone numbers Harun Aydin filled in his work permit rang and was chosen by other people. We were ready to indict him in court, but we also have a mutual relationship with the Turkish government,” he said. said Matiang’i.

The SC also noted that the government of Kenya had not apologized to Turkey, as reports had previously claimed, adding that various people had been expelled during his tenure as an interior SC.

“As a responsible official, I cannot bring myself to apologize. I have a responsibility to protect the country,” said the interior boss.

It comes just four days after the businessman, who is an associate of Vice President William Ruto, was kicked out of Kenya.

Speaking outside the Kahawa courthouse on Monday, August 9, his lawyer, Ahmednassir Abdullahi, said Harun was expelled from Nairobi overnight.
