Residents of Gatitu area in Tharaka Nithi have been left in shock and fear after a 60-year-old elderly man was arrested after defiling a mentally challenged lady on Monday afternoon.
According to police report, neighbors saw the 20-year-old girl coming from the compound of the old man crying. When questioned she said that the man had defiled her and threatened to harm her if she told anyone.
Confirming the incidence, the Area Chief Edward Gitonga said the suspect, who lives alone, was found naked and the inner-wear of the girl on his bed.
“We have found the man wearing only a shirt and an inner-wear believed to belong to the mentally challenged girl on his bed,” said Mr Gitonga.
While narrating what transpired, the girl said that the man called her to go to his house and assist him to look for some missing keys before he locked the door, threw her on bed and threatened the girl not to scream.
Out of fear, the girl kept silent as the man did the heinous crime to her. It is then after that she got the courage to open up to neighbors who later confronted the man.
Residents of the area have pleaded with the police to keep the man under custody and make sure that they jail him as they fear for the safety of their children.
The girl was later rushed to hospital where she is receiving treatment as the ederly man was taken to Mitheru police station where is expected to be charged for having s3xual relations with a lady without her consent.
