Kenyan newspapers headlines for January 25

The country’s top newspapers focused on the political tussle between the Orange Democratic Party Leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto.

The dailies also covered the standards set by ODM party for anyone who wants to vie for presidency with their ticket indicating that one should have a University degree and KSh 1 million nun-refundable.

The country’s second in command William Ruto has defended Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee administration over attacks by Raila Odinga.

Ruto stated that the Jubilee administration led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has managed to acquire various achievements since they took power in 2013.

The DP who has recently not been in good terms with his boss, continued blaming Raila for changing the government’s priorities with his alternative Building Bridges Initiative (BBI)

Ruto stated clearly to Raila that he should not direct an administration problems to him but should book an appointment with the President.

“This government was delivering until the time we were told that our priorities must change. If you have a problem with the performance of the Jubilee government, stop the contempt and the condescending attitude towards the president, addressing him in rallies.
If you have a problem with him, look for the president on phone or see him in person in his office. You call the president your brother, why then are you airing your grievances in rallies saying Jubilee has not done this or that? Look for the president in his office,” said Ruto.

The daily reported that Raila Odinga will be addressing people from Central Kenya on Monday, January 25 through Kameme TV.

Raila is following his handshake friend Uhuru Kenyatta’s footsteps who previously addressed mount Kenya voters in vernacular on live Radio drumming up support for BBI.

The trend is now seen to hype up as ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi also addressed the region people in a vernacular station.

Reports have it that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is also planning for an interview at one of the vernacular stations to talk to people from Mount Kenya region.

The daily has assessed the chances of ODM leader Raila Odinga winning the top seat come 2022 General elections.

According to his allies, COTU chief Francis Atwoli and Junet Mohammed Raila is likey to emerge the winner since he has ammassed support from half the country.

Junet stated that the handshake is a guarantee for Raila win as he will take over the Mount Kenya region.

COTU boss on his part said that it is time for NASA members to support Raila to increase his chances to get the top seat.

However, at NASA Raila might lack support from Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Wetangula who are also eyeing for the seat.

According to reports Uhuru might not be able to offer Raila a good number of voters as expected because Ruto is already taking over the region

“Ruto is enjoying enormous support across the country including Mount Kenya. That is why every aspirant is fighting him because he is a front-runner,” said Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.

Mombasa governor Hassan Joho,Amason Kingi and Wycliffe Oparanya are some of the members who have hinted on being in the ballot.
The ODM party leader has not yet declared interest in the presidential seat but his closest allies have tipped Citizens on the much possibilities.
