Kenya Railways Unveils Konza City Route for Nairobi Commuters

On, Saturday, January 29, the authority said that it had successfully rehabilitated the railway line that leads to the Ksh 595.8 billion Konza Technopolis, popularly known as Konza City.


A train was also availed for the Nairobi - Konza Technopolis route.

"Today is a very exciting day as we take the first Nairobi - Konza Technopolis train.
"This will further enhance transportation options and open up the technopolis and the buffer zone area for further investments," Eng John Tanui
, the CEO Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) announced.

ICT CS Joe Mucheru added that it was a proud moment for Kenya as the train to Konza from Nairobi made its maiden trip. He thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta and Kenya Railways team for transforming the region.


The route will mostly be used to ferry goods, passengers and workers who will be commuting to and from Nairobi.

Kenya Railways said that it was expediting the construction of a station at Konza, alongside others at Mutindwa and Lukenya.

Konza dubbed 'Africa's Silicon Savannah' is a key flagship project of Kenya’s Vision 2030 economic development blueprint.


It sits on a 5,000-acre (2,011-hectare) site 70 kilometres from Nairobi, the construction workers are hard at work to ensure the project is a success.

It was projected to create more than 200,000 jobs. In June 2020, the Treasury allocated Ksh 6.3 billion in the 2020/2021 budget towards the project.
