Joseph Githinji of the Jubilee Party has won the Muguga Ward by-election.

Githinji won the MCA seat in a closely contested two-horse race, garnering 4,089 votes- only 27 votes more than his closest competitor. United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Peter Kamau got 4,062 votes.
Thirdway Alliance’s Moses Gichau came a distant third with only 49 votes. People’s Party of Kenya’s (PPK) Peter Njoroge came fourth with a mere 32 votes.

The 29 polling stations in Muguga Ward, Kabete Constituency, opened at 6 am and closed at around 5 am, in a mini poll that witnessed a voter turnout of 45.4 percent.
Just like the Kiambaa Parliamentary by-election, Muguga had also attracted more interest on national politics than local. It was a race that was supposed to set the record straight whether President Uhuru Kenyatta is still the Mt Kenya region political supremo or Deputy President William Ruto had made some serious inroads in the vote-rich region ahead of the 2022 General Election.
