Dr Phepsile Maseko, the Head and National Coordinator of the Traditional Healers Organization of South Africa has passed on following a short illness. Dr Phepsile played a very pivotal role in advocating for the rightful place of traditional healers and natural medicine in modern systems and societies.

She recently made headlines in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 when she presented case studies of African Traditional Medicine treatment options and plants for Covid-19 remedies. She expressed that Traditional medicine is not only cheap but accessible and was effective in treating the Spanish Flu too, so it equally can be effective in the symptomatic management of Covid-19.

Throughout her outstanding work and life, she has been lobbying for traditional healers to be included and trained in all levels of planning and implementation of treatment and prevention. Also, she was at the helm of a pilot project with three provinces in China for institutionalizing traditional medicine in the national health care system.

The family gift of healing has helped a 44-year-old woman build a successful pharmaceutical company in Mpumalanga called Phephisa Natural Resource Institute. After years of being a traditional healing activist, she said she launched this company to create pharmaceutical products using traditional plants.

She has advocated that the AU establish an African health organization and has held lectures and efforts to reduce cancer risks using natural solutions and remedies.
