Residents of Makhokho area in Ikolomani on the Kakamega-Kisumu road were today treated in a dramatic scenes that seemed like a movie scene after a battle ensued between the police and five suspected thieves.
The five thief's who were killed by the police are said to have been cornered by the officers when they were on their transits using a Toyota Belta while en route to an unclear destination.
Confirming the incident, Kakamega South Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Chesire said that the 5 thieves in picture were planning to conduct as series of attacks with the region however their efforts were shattered after the residents raised concerns about the unidentified group of men whom were not familiar to them.
“The police challenged them to surrender but instead the(robbers) fired at them. All robbers were armed,” Chesire said.
The police officers who engaged them in a running battle were able to recover items such as two pistols, police uniform, several rounds of ammunition, a radio device, a bank cheque and a car which was later towed to the nearest police station.
The bodies of the suspects were later taken to the nearest mortuary. No police officer was hurt in the incidence.
