1. Daily Nation

The publication told its readers that Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua hosted a meeting at his Karen home, a meeting that brought together politicians from Mt Kenya and Rift Valley, the agenda being the 2022 politics.

The daily said the leaders met to craft economic and political demands which they want to be agreed on with the DP before the 2022 General Election.

"He's Wobbling and Limping" Among the political demands were the need for Ruto to pick his running mate from the region, among other political positions.

For the economic demands, the politicians constituted an 11-member team to lead the talks with the DP. "Our people have asked us to negotiate with Ruto as he is their preferred presidential candidate. Even the DP knows that we are meeting, and we will make these demands on behalf of our people," Rigathi Gachagua, Mathira member of parliament.

2. The People Daily

The publication also reported on the meeting convened by Mt Kenya politicians to negotiate on a pact between them and the deputy president. The agenda of the meeting, as earlier reported, remained to be position sharing and the revival of the economy in the Mt Kenya region if Ruto becomes the president.

The legislators want the DP to disclose to them the plans he has for the region in terms of economic revival and the position he intends to set aside for the region.

The leaders who steered the talks included MPs Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Rigathi Gachaua (Mathira), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati) and senators Susan Kihika (Nakuru) and her Meru counterpart Mithika Linturi among other leaders.

3. The Star

The daily reported of non-compliance to President Uhuru Kenyatta's directives on tender procurement witnessed in state agencies.

A report by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) had shown that several state organisations were violating the rules governing the process of awarding tenders.

The agencies are said to have failed in reporting terminations of procurement and asset disposal proceedings within 14 days of such termination.

PPRA also flagged failure by the agencies to comply with the law requiring that assets disposed to employees are reported in 14 days.

State agencies are also required to report contract awards quarterly and any variations and use of alternative selection method before using the said method – such as direct procurement.

4. The Standard

The publication reported that teachers and other public servants could be contemplating a strike following the decision by the National Treasury to withhold close to KSh 83 billion meant for their salary increment. Through their labour unions, the civil servants have threatened to down their tools if the matter is not resolved in good time.

Amid various Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) that warranted pay rise among the civil service members, the National Treasury has remained non-committal in honouring the agreements.

CS Ukur Yattani has owed the non-commitment to budgetary constraints citing the coming General Election and the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

5. Taifa Leo

The Swahili publication touched on the drama witnessed on various roads in Nairobi on Saturday, April 17, when the police were enforcing the 8pm to 4am curfew.

Police barricaded major roads in the city's outskirts, including Thika Road, Lang'ata Road, Waiyaki Way and Ngong Road, among others.

Commuters plying the affected routes complained after being forced to spend the night on the roads by law enforcers who said they were executing orders from above.

They were said to have violated the curfew regulations after they were found out past the curfew hours.
