Top Newspaper Headlines for February 5

The country’s top newspapers on Friday, February 5 focused on retired President Daniel Arap Moi’s first anniversary since his death as well as the widening split between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto over the handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

One of the dailies also highlighted President Uhuru’s concern over the rising political temperatures in the country.

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura on Thursday, February 4 appeared before the Jubilee disciplinary committee for allegedly pledging alliance to another political party.

The Senator argued that the party is run undemocratically as top officials already declared his expulsion even before the trial is done.

“Jubilee vice chair David Murathe and chairman Dzuya have already declared my expulsion even before the trial is done. I will demonstrate to the whole world how this party is run undemocratically,” he said.
Senator Mwaura was accompanied by a section of Tanga Tanga leaders led by outspoken nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, February 4 slammed his deputy, William Ruto over alleged disrespect and disloyalty one year, seven months to the General Election.

Speaking in Kabarak during the first anniversary of the late retired president Daniel Moi, Uhuru told off the DP and his allies urging them to be respectful and stop arrogance.

“Moi served my old man (Mzee Jomo Kenyatta) with great respect until his time came. He led Kenyans for 24 years and left with respect,” Uhuru said.
“He respected Kenya’s third president Mwai Kibaki even though he was not his choice… God gives leadership through the people,” he added.

The daily focused on President Uhuru’s concern over the raising political temperatures in the country as the 2022 General Election approaches.

The head of state expressed his concerns while speaking in Kabarak during an event to commemorate the first anniversary of the late retired president Daniel Moi.

The president was among speakers at the event who called out DP Ruto over alleged disloyalty and disrespect towards Uhuru.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s woes continue to increase even as he is staring at life in jail if convicted of the several charges he’s is accused of.

Trouble started when the impeached county boss made damning allegations against President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.

Sonko’s ‘loose mouth’ has since landed him in three different courts accused of different charges including robbery with violence and terror links.
