The Zaria Village Starts Coming to Life

Located in Kiambu County, The Zaria Village was unveiled in September 2019 by the Safaricom Investment Co-operative (SIC), with an objective of empowering prospective investors and clients by availing the housing units below market value.

The village sits on 120 acres of land subdivided into 331 serviced plots, each ¼ of an acre, with buyers enjoying the luxury of building a home from selected designs. The designs are dubbed The Zara, The Zaira, The Zayana and The Zazi. Each of the designs have a unique interior and exterior

Out of the 331 plots, there is a provision for a school (kindergarten), a clubhouse, and a shopping centre. These are the only units that are spared for commercial uses. The rest are housing units.

One year down the line, we take a look at what has so far come to birth, and what still lies in wait.

The development is running a little bit behind schedule. Initial projection was after six months since unveiling in October 2019, they would be done with the infrastructure. These have been caused by:

• Delays in getting approvals from the government.
• Rains early in the year slowed down the development of the ground infrastructure.

However, despite the challenges, these, so far, has happened, or is already happening:

• Built about 3km of the perimeter wall.
• First level of roads i.e. cutting them out, putting the first layer of murram has been done to a tune of 6 kilometres. This is paving way for the construction of paved blocks as opposed to the tarmac; the paved blocks are an improved version of cabro.
• Trenching and laying pipes for the services i.e. water, electricity, fibre.
• Entry gate has been built.
• Out of the gate parking has been carved out.
• Started out on the clubhouse; at foundation level.
• Carved out space for the swimming pool.
• The first excavation of the man-made dam.
• Fabrication of street light poles is ongoing.

The following provisions are still underway:

• Nature trail beside the river.
• Live fences between properties.
• Two power locations i.e. the village will have two transformers on two different locations.
• Two boreholes.
• Running track around the perimeter wall.
• Solar-powered lights.

During our recent interview with Peter Gichangi, who serves as the Board Chairman and Director of Zaria Village, it was revealed that some buyers have already started their constructions. This could only mean one thing; The Zaria Village has started to breathe, and in a few months, next year even, this could be the next big thing in Real Estate
