Robert Wangila winning Gold for Kenya at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. To date he remains the only boxer from Sub-Saharan Africa outside of South Africa to have won Olympic gold.
He was good as a boxer but undisciplined as an athlete.Right after this event he moved to Vegas where he hoped to turn professional and openly challenged Mike Tyson. What he didn't realize was that his celebrity status in Kenya didn't translate to America, and in order to reach Tyson's level he had to start from the bottom again and work his way up.His last fight was with a then-unknown Oscar De la Hoya, who made quick work out of him. After that his life spiralled out of control.

-Its well known that after his death his body and his fortune would be hotly contested for decades and in the end his family recieved nothing because it was mostly used up in legal fees.
