Public Health Emergency Update & Rapid Tests
⦁ The Biden Administration has extended the Public Health Emergency to 1/11/23 (previously it was until 12/31/22). Home test kits should be covered by insurance until the end of the PHE but individuals should check with their insurers to confirm.
⦁ OTHER INFO: Certain public health emergency orders for Mass were rescinded by Gov Baker on 11/14, including an order prohibiting billing uninsured individuals for COVID-19 testing. Uninsured individuals may need to pay out-of-pocket for PCR tests when the previously didn't have to. See all of the rescinded orders here: https://www.mass.gov/doc/covid-19-public-health-emergency-order-no-2022-21/download . Also, nationally it's expected about 15 million people will lose Medicaid when the PHE ends. States were prohibited from disenrolling anyone during the PHE, so there will people who will no longer qualify and will get kicked off that insurance. Some may be eligible for insurance through the Affordable Care Act, but they will have to apply to be eligible.
