And here's what you need to know from today's directives following the 11th Presidential Address on the Coronavirus Pandemic in Kenya.
HIGH LEVEL:
The relevant agencies investigating the KEMSA Scandal should expedite their ongoing investigations and conclude the same 21 days from today.
The nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew is hereby EXTENDED for another 30 days.
The closing time for restaurants and eateries is VARIED by 1 hour. Closing now moves from 7pm to 8pm effective 27th August 2020.
The closure of bars and nightclubs shall CONTINUE for another 30 days. However, the prohibition against the sale of alcohol by licensed hotels with residents is today VACATED/LIFTED.
The number of persons permitted to attend funerals and weddings is REVIEWED UPWARDS from 15 to 100. All attendees will be required to abide by the Ministry of Health protocols. This revision is in accordance with the recommendations of the Inter-Faith Council.
DETAILS:
1. The Cabinet Secretary for Health acting jointly with the Chairperson of the Council of Governors shall constitute a National Reference Group (NRG) for Covid-19 to:
1.1 Review the efficacy of our response to this pandemic so far and record the lessons learnt so far.
1.2 Formulate strategies to review our institutional weaknesses and recommend ways to increase the representation of County Gov'ts on boards of healthcare agencies.
1.3. Position healthcare as a driver of the manufacturing sector to ensure preference is given to local manufacturers in the production of local pharmaceutical products in light of the pandemic and our Universal Healthcare Program.
1.4. Establish the Kenya COVID Vaccine consortium so that our research institutions can now come together bringing on board all relevant stakeholders locally and partnering with international partners to sharpen focus on developing and testing of C19 vaccine in Kenya for local and regional use.
2. Following the allegations of impropriety at KEMSA, the various investigation units in the country are fully appraised on the matter.
2.1 The relevant investigative agencies should expedite their ongoing investigations and conclude the same within 21 days from today.
2.2 All persons found to be culpable in the KEMSA scandal should be brought to book (ir)regardless of their status and political affiliations.
3. The CS for Interior in conjunction with the Chair of the COG shall in 3 weeks convene an inclusive national consultative conference to review our National and County response to COVID-19 response so far. They will also rechart Kenya's post-COVID-19 future.
3.1 The closure of bars and nightclubs shall continue for another 30 days. However, the prohibition against the sale of alcohol by licensed hotels with residents is today vacated/lifted.
3.2. The MoH in conjunction with all bar owners will develop self-regulating mechanisms as part of their social responsibility to their clients in order to allow their resumption.
3.3. The closing time for restaurants and eateries is varied by 1 hour from 7pm to 8pm effective on the 27th August 2020.
3.4. In accordance with the recommendations of the Inter-Faith Council, the number of persons permitted to attend funerals and weddings is reviewed upwards from 15 to 100. All attendees will be required to abide by the Ministry of Health protocols.
3.5. The ban on the sale of Mitumba is herewith lifted and details of how this will be operated and the protocols for the same will be announced by GoK tomorrow.,
3.6. The Ministry of sports and MoH will jointly issue guidelines on the gradual resumption of sporting events in Kenya.
3.7. The nationwide curfew is extended by another 30 days.
