On Wednesday, August 7, 1974, people in "Lower Manhattan" stopped to watch a strange event. It wasn't a bird, it wasn't a plane, and it certainly wasn't Superman. Philippe Petit, who walked on a steel cable suspended more than 400 meters high between the tops of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. During 45 minutes he walked between the towers 8 times, and he was so comfortable that he even knelt down and lay down on the cable. The owners of the World Trade Center gave him a lifetime pass to the viewpoint, and he even signed the steel beam where he started his walk. Petit Walk remains one of New York City's most legendary and impressive public art acts.
