Pastor who defiled and impregnated his two teenage daughters arrested
A church elder accused of defiling and impregnating his two teenage daughters in Kirinyaga County was on Saturday evening arrested.
John Gichuki, a pastor in a local Akorino church in Kathaka village, Ndia Constituency, has been on the run since December 14, 2020 when his family members reported him to the police.
The 45-year-old is accused of impregnating his 16-year-old daughter who has since delivered and has a seven-month-old child, before defiling his 14-year-old daughter who is five months pregnant.
Confirming the arrest, Ndia Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Moses Ivuto said that Gichuki was arrested in his hide-out in Mbeere South, Embu County. Ivuot says he was arrested after he switched on his phone.
It is believed that Gichuki threatened his wife against reporting him to the police when he impregnated his first daughter. But the second-born daughter was brave enough to reveal to his mother’s sister that she was pregnant with her dad’s child.
That was when Nancy Wambura reported the matter to the police.
He is being held at Sagana Police Station and will be arraigned in court tomorrow (Monday).
On December 14 2020, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici and her Uasin Gishu counterpart Gladys Boss led locals in a protest at Sagana Police Station demanding for the arrest of Gichuki.
Gladys Boss promised to represent the minors in court when the suspect will be arrested.
In November 2020, a man in Baringo North was accused of defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old daughter, before making her to procure an abortion.
Since the advent of COVID-19 in the country, there has been an increase in cases of gender-based violence.
Human rights groups are saying that measures put in place to curb the spread of the virus, as necessary as they are, are exposing women and girls to the risk of of gender-based violence.
