A 32-year-old man has confessed to selling his girlfriend’s luxury vehicle worth Sh5.7 million following a disagreement.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi at Milimani law courts on Tuesday, Paul Kihika Wangari admitted he sold the Prado Land Cruiser while in Shanzu, Mombasa.

He told the court that the complainant was his girlfriend. Kihika was charged that between February 5th, 2021, and April 3rd, 2021 in Nairobi, he stole a car registration number KCF 656X, which is the property of Hellen Akinyi Omiti.

In his statement, the accused told police that he met Akinyi at a bar on Mombasa Road in 2019 and started a relationship. The relationship blossomed and he started using her cars.

In February 2021, Akinyi sent Kihika to Shanzu to supervise the refurbishment of her house there. He used her Prado to travel to the coastal city.

While there, Akinyi sent the man Sh80,000 to carry out repairs on the posh car but he asked for more cash for personal use, leading to a disagreement.

After the argument over the phone, Kihika says he decided to sell off the car to raise money to solve some personal problems he was facing.

“I did not consult her before I disposed of the car,” Kihika admitted.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 or a bond of Sh500,000. The case will be mentioned in a fortnight to fix hearing dates.
