Moi's Son Philip Agrees to Settle Debt Owed to Former Italian Wife to Avoid Jail

Philip Moi has settled part of the Sh1.8 million debt owed to his former Italian wife Rossana Pluda to avoid being sent to jail.

Earlier this month, Justice Aggrey Muchelule ordered the officer commanding Muthaiga Police Station to appear before the court on Thursday to explain why Philip was yet to be arrested since April 2019 for failing to pay the money.

On Thursday, the judge was told that Philip, a son of former President Daniel Arap Moi, paid Sh405,000 with the balance to be settled within 30 days.

Philip and Rossana were involved in divorce proceedings that went all the way to the Appeals Court and after losing the case, he was ordered to pay his former wife Sh2.8 million as costs of the suit.

Philip paid Sh1 million in two installments but failed to settle the remaining Sh1,830,000. The parties had agreed that he pays the entire amount before March 29th, 2019.

Through her lawyer Judy Thongori, Rossana returned to court saying that Philip, a retired army officer, failed to comply with the directive.

On April 9th, 2019, the court issued a warrant of arrest against Philip to be executed by the officer in charge of Muthaiga police station.

Two years after the warrant was issued, Philip was yet to be arrested neither had he settled the debt, prompting the court to summon Muthaiga OCS to explain why he failed to execute the order.
