I am glad that Starlink has heeded to calls by Kenyans to offer their kit on rental terms. This will make their penetration into Kenya skyrocket by massive numbers as the major hinderance has been the high initial cost of setting up which even after dropping from Ksh74,000 to Ksh39,500 and now Ksh29,000, still remains high for most individuals.

At speeds of up to 200Mbps and an average of 150Mbps Starlink is by far the best internet solution for homes and businesses. Since it's satellite based you can install it anywhere in Kenya, even the remotest of parts that are not covered by Safaricom and Airtel.

COSTS

Starlink kit monthly rental: Ksh1,950
One-time service fee: Ksh2,700
Monthly plan: From Ksh1,300 (50GB plan)

In comparison, Safaricom which has been the leading provider may have challenges in areas where coverage is poor. They charge Ksh2,500 for a 45GB plan at 5Mbps. Its max speeds are nowhere near the lighting fast Starlink speeds as Safaricom offers only 40Mbps for Ksh9,999 a month!!!

Starlink is a major disruption and it can only mean joy for consumers!
