Cherera and three other commissioners, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang'anya are being investigated after Ruto ordered National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee to investigate them over gross misconduct and abuse of office during August general elections.

However, days before JLAC could release their verdict, Cherera, Wanderi and Nyang'anya resigned saying they were wrongly Judged for performing their duties within law and with integrity.

However, new details on what allegedly forced ex-vice-chairperson Cherera to resign has emerged.

Cherera and Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition leader Raila Odinga are said to have allegedly met while the counting of votes process was ongoing.

According to the four commissioners lawyers, JLAC Committee had been presented with a flash disc that contained a video clip that showed Cherera and Raila meeting prior to the Serena press conference.

Protesting the video clip, Cherera's lawyers said that the clip was not part of the earlier evidences presented before JLAC.

Cherera, Raila and former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho closeness prominently featured after the four commissioners press conference at Serena Hotel where they disagreed with IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati over the Presidential results.

Viral images of the three immediately started making rounds within social media platforms with members of the public claiming that they were being used by Raila Odinga and some invisible forces to cast doubt on William Ruto’s election win.
