Heavy rains expected in parts of Kenya this week — Met

Heavy Rainfall of above 100 mm is expected over some parts of Kenya, the weatherman has said.

In the one week forecast that begins on August 10 to 16, the Kenya Meteorological Department said rainfall is expected over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin.

The rains are also expected at the South and Central Rift Valley, the Northwest and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.
These counties include Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans-Nzoia, Nakuru, Kericho, Bungoma, Nandi, Vihiga, West Pokot, Baringo, Laikipia, Nyandarua and Nyeri.

"Isolated storms are likely to occur over some parts of these areas," Met said.

Moderate rainfall between 50-100 mm is expected over most parts of Nyamira, Kisii, Kericho, Kakamega, Bungoma, Laikipia, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Samburu, Baringo, Turkana and West Pokot Counties.

Light rainfall 10-50 mm is expected over some parts of Turkana, Samburu, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu.
Others are; Machakos, Nairobi, Murang’a, Kiambu, Narok, Migori, Siaya, Kisumu, Busia, Bomet Kajiado, Makueni, Taita Taveta Counties and along the coastal areas.

The rest parts of the counties especially for Mandera, Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Kitui are expected to remain relatively dry.

Last week, Met said strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots are expected over some parts of the Coast, the Northeast, the Northwest and the South-eastern lowlands.

Counties affected were Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, West Pokot, Samburu, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta.
