China in a bid to save his life and buy his freedom had revealed to the Special Branch how Inspector Nyangor would supply them with police guns and uniforms.

Apart from volunteering critical intelligence information to the Special Branch ,China had also tried to lure other freedom fighters among them Dedan Kimathi into negotiating with the British.

Because of China's revelation the Special Branch developed a special interest in Nyangor’s activities and began investigating him covertly.

Investigations revealed that he had lost a 303 rifle while serving as a Charge Officer at Nanyuki police station. It was later discovered that this weapon found its way into the hands of Mau Mau who used it to launch an assault on Naivasha police station

Further investigations revealed that while stationed at Naro Moru police station from 1st Dec 1952 until Aug 21, 1953 and while serving as an instructor at Kiganjo Police Training School, Nyangor was known to have supplied mau mau with ammunition clothing and police badges.

As a result , Nyangor was labelled a "rogue officer" and arrested while on duty at Kiganjo Nyeri on the 15th Feb 1955 . He was subsequently transferred to Hola detention camp on a Governor's detention order.

During his first year at Hola he was among the most hard-core detainees and would often incite other detainees against the prison wardens ,but in 1957 he became remorseful and made a confession which led to the suspension of his detention in what the authorities called “exemplary conduct.”

Although he had been recommended for release ,the Provincial Commissioner Nyanza refused him entry into the Province accusing him of being a dangerous agitator who could easily contaminate the people of Nyanza.

With no other place to send him ,the DC Athi River released him from Hola detention Camp and placed him under restriction in a certain location in Hola Township.

While in Hola ,his mother ,Awino Aloo organised a wife for him and even went ahead to pay the bride price.

The bride was Jane Akinyi of Masiro Kokech near Ramunde Primary School ,North Ugenya .Her father had initially agreed with Nyangor’s mother on a bride price of shs 200/- and 2 cows ,but later changed his mind and demanded 12 cows and Shs 450/-

After further negotiations,Nyangor’s mother offered to pay 5 more cows which was agreeable to all parties ,and as soon as the payment was confirmed ,Jane requested the DC Central Nyanza to grant her permission to join her husband in Hola where he was still under restriction.

Her request was approved by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of African Affairs in October 1959 and special arrangements made for her to travel in a convenient convoy.

They lived together in Hola for sometime before they were transferred to Lodwar and then Seyusi Island on Lake Victoria where Stephen Nyangor was deristricted in 1960 after being screened.

Inspector Stephen Nyangor was the son of Paul and Awino Aloo of Alego Location,Rawa Sub-Location ,Central Nyanza District.

He joined the Colonial Police Force in 1950 and attained the rank of Inspector in just 4 years. He served in Naivasha Naro Moru,Nanyuki and Kiganjo Police Training School Nyeri.

His registration number was ID/K/KSU/1568
