The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, March 5 issued a statement regarding the arrest of popular gossip blogger Edgar Obare and his co-accused Desy Oduor Achieng.
In a lengthy statemente made on DCI official social media pages, the blogger described as a serial fraudster was accused of working with Desy to defraud a prominent Governor KSh 10 million.
The DCI also alleged that the blogger has been recruiting young ladies to stalk prominent personalities in political, business and religious circles for monetary exploitation.
In this case, Obare allegedly coached Desy to extort money from the Governor who had allegedly impregnated Desy and refused to take responsibility.
However, the lady confessed to have never met the Governor and was recruited by Obare to make the unfounded claims.
Obare and his co-accused will be charged with publishing false information, contrary to section 23 of the computer misuse and cybercrime act, 2018.
