Boston Red Sox to hire Bianca Smith, first Black female MLB coach
The Boston Red Sox are making Major League Baseball history with the team's newest new hire.

Bianca Smith will join the organization as a minor league coach. Smith becomes the first Black female coach in professional baseball.
She's currently on the coaching staff at Carroll University in Wisconsin.

Smith has also worked at Case Western Reserve and the University of Dallas. She played softball at Dartmouth College.

Smith was a baseball operations intern with the Texas Rangers in 2017 and has also previously worked in amateur administration at the league office in 2018 before interning in the Cincinnati Reds baseball operations department in 2019.

She joins the growing number of female professional baseball coaches in the MLB, including Rachel Balkovec with the New York Yankees, Rachel Folden with the Chicago Cubs, Christina Whitlock with the St. Louis Cardinals and Alyssa Nakken with the San Francisco Giants.

The announcement was expected to be made official in the coming weeks.
