Akurinu Kikuyu Gospel Artist mama Julia Lucy is dead

Akurinu Kikuyu Gospel Artist mama Julia Lucy is dead. She is one of the oldest Akurinu gospel musician and who laid the foundation of the genre of music.
Veteran gospel musician Mama Julia Lucy has passed on.

The legendary singer, who was known for many of her popular Kikuyu songs such as Ukandirikana Mwathani and Thiaga na Kihoto, died on Sunday, 14th February.

Details of the cause of death have not been revealed.

She has been living a quiet life in the last few years.

Mama Julia is among the pioneers of gospel music in the Mt Kenya region and eastern parts of the country.

It is not clear when she started her music career, but an elderly woman who spoke to this writer disclosed that she was already a household names in the early 1970s.
According to those who know her, the singer was a staunch Christian and no amount of conviction would make her compromise her faith.

“Rest In peace our mum. You loved God and served him in truth and spirit,” Inooro FM gospel show presenter Muturi Muiru, who has known the singer for a long time, said in his condolence message.

Interestingly, in one her popular songs, she pleads with God to remember her when she dies.
