31-year-old Kenyan Gilbert Kemei of Lynn, dies in fatal Wenham car crash on Rt. 128 – Monday, November 1, 2021

At 1:15 AM Troopers from the State Police-Danvers Barracks responded to a single-car crash on Route 128 northbound in Wenham. The crash resulted in the fatality of the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Chris Bullens indicates that a northbound 2017 Toyota Camry veered off the roadway to the right and entered the wood line. The operator, Gilbert Kemei, 31, of Lynn, was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police, with assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Troopers were also assisted on scene by the Wenham and Beverly Police and Fire Departments and a Salem State University Police Officer, who was the first to observe the vehicle off the road.

31-year-old Lynn man was killed Monday morning when the vehicle he was operating suddenly veered off the road and crashed into the woods in Wenham, police said.

The driver, Gilbert Kemei, was declared dead by first responders on the scene, State Police said in a statement.

Police responded to Route 128 northbound in Wenham around 1:15 a.m. Monday. Kemei had been driving a 2017 Toyota Camry when the vehicle “veered off the roadway to the right and entered the wood line,” the statement said.

A Salem State University police officer was the first to notice the wrecked vehicle.

An investigation is ongoing.
