12-Year-Old Kenyan Girl Wins Award in the US

12-year-old Sheila Sheldone Charles won the 2021 Nina Simone Artistic Excellence Award for Young, Gifted and Black Entrepreneur on Monday March 8. She was the only child and African nominated for the award.

“My greatest gratitude goes to the following people who facilitated my trip to the United States; Mombasa County, Youth, Gender, Sports and Cultural Affairs Department, Captain Mohamed of Fly Skyward Express, ”Sheila said.

The award won on March 8 is her third prize after winning the Youngest Lioness Award in 2018 and the Global Child Prodigy Award in 2020.

Sheldon received the Youngest Lioness in the United States award for being the youngest African girl helping the community there. The Global Child Prodigy Award was presented in New Delhi, India.

She is versatile because she is a model, poet, designer and artist. The winner has two songs, “Ringo and Corona”. As for her talent as a model and designer, she designs her own clothes and models them.

With his artistic talent. Sheila painted many portraits that made the news.

On March 14, 2020, Sheila posted a painting by Ellen DeGeneres, a talk show host in the United States, drew an overwhelming response from people around the world on social media.

Sheldone has already caught the attention of executives, in particular; President Uhuru Kenyatta, Head of ODM Raila Odinga, former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

She offered paintings to the aforementioned rulers on different occasions when they met.
